Pride in Water has made the difficult decision to not march in person at the Melbourne Midsumma Pride March on Feb 6 due to the ongoing Omicron outbreak.
As an LGBTIQ+ Pride Network for the water industry, taking part as a contingent of Midsumma is an important way for our water sector to show support for our LGBTIQ+ customers, colleagues and broader community.
We love to be able to join these community events, and we also know how much work goes into preparing for community events. We are deeply grateful to the Midsumma team and volunteers for the work they have done to create an event that is COVID safe. However, during these challenging times we need to ensure our water sector colleagues stay safe so that we can keep delivering safe and reliable water and wastewater services to our customers and community.
This was a tough call to make, but as an essential service we believe it’s the right one for our people and our community. We encourage everyone to get involved with celebrating LGBTIQ+ inclusion in the water industry by listening in to the JOYFM broadcast of the Pride March and checking out the other fantastic events that are happening throughout the Midsumma Festival. To kick off 2022, Pride in Water will hold an online event during February as an additional way to celebrate our water industry PRIDE. Stay tuned for more info to come.
